TiNi is recruiting for the position of a Business Capture Development Engineer supporting our mechanism products.  This position will report to the TiNi San Rafael Site Director.  This position will preferably be located in San Rafael, CA, but will require travel to Moorpark, CA.  Travel in support of customer initiatives will also be required including international travel. 

Responsibilities:

The Business Capture Development Engineer will be responsible for working with the business development team and more senior mechanical design engineers to create concept and detail designs of mechanical release mechanisms utilizing shape memory alloys based on customer need.  This position will require the engineer to take concept designs and bring them through the detail design phase and qualification to support ongoing sales into the marketplace. In addition, the engineer will be required to:

  • Drive business growth through interface with customers on concepts in support of their business needs

  • Technically negotiate customer requirements with senior design engineers and the customer to arrive at a feasible product concept leading to a design win

  • Technically oversee progress of new product development and work through design changes, test and performance anomalies with staff engineers and customers as required

  • Lead internal design reviews and resolve technical issues expeditiously

  • Lead multi-discipline teams in the preparation of complex proposals including reviewing a customer Request for Proposal (RFP) and be able to create the design, a compliance matrix against the design requirements, a risk reduction plan, the Basis of Estimate (BOE) and write the technical volume.

  • Develop Interface Control Drawing (ICD) early in the bidding and proposal phase of the project (preferably in Solid Works)

  • Perform hands on build and test processes and/or oversight

  • Interface with offsite personnel to communicate design requirements that may be manufactured in Moorpark, CA

  • Support the transition of designs into production at remote sites, including Moorpark, CA

  • Lead failure analysis, FMEA, etc and be able to communicate findings to customers both verbally and in written form

  • Work with Program Manager/Director on proposal strategy and pricing recommendations

  • Additional duties include coordination with other departments to ensure the production viability of new designs, creation of the required documentation, and internal and customer approval for this documentation.

Requirements:

  • The successful candidate must have a BS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or aerospace engineering.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of project, design or related engineering experience in Aerospace and/or Defense Industry is preferred. 

  • Knowledge of non-pyro actuator mechanism is strongly desired

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills for interaction with various levels of management and customers.

  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques.

  • Prefer experience with government specifications and industry standards related to aerospace components’ and systems’ design, manufacture, and test. 

  • Familiarity with shape memory alloy is a strong preference

  • Working understanding of electrical circuits.

  • Position will require travel (mostly within state of CA) of 33% within the first 3 months and 25% travel to current and potential customers thereafter.
